WASL

the wasl is a test designed for the state to measure the students learning in Washington state that numerous amounts of students take a year. for this test the cost of administering is going up consistently. just this weekend we found that the 22million dollar bdget was not going to be enough to proctor the test this year they would have to move the price up by 15 to 25 million dollars more. some are questioning if it is even worth administering the test any more others are trying to find ways to make it cost efficient.  all of this has come about do to the frequency that we must administer the test due to NCLB is this a good idea. its hard to tell what they will be doing to change but something will have to change soon and fast in order for the test to work. .

Parents and students

in today’s world the NCLB is a law that affects every day life of many people of the nation oer it should.  today  the most blame for the way the test are going is the administators and the teachers but shouldnt we put some of the blame on the students and the parents? these are the people that should be most affected by this new law that has run the nations education for the past 7 years. the students dont hold this test very high because they do not get an actual grade for this and they do not see the ultimate outcome of the test some people say.    which could be true but parents should also stress to the student the importance ofthe test that they are taking even if it means they must educate their child on the NCLB itself. this will help put the progress on all the parties responsible for the outcome.

NCLB and LPOSD

while i was doing research i came across an article in a newspaper  that i as a girl saw around town the Daily Bee for those of you that dont know what paper that it is it is the bonner county paper serving places like sandpoint in idaho there school district is very small and because that fact the NCLB has made it very difficult for them to keep enrollment up. you see ony the public schools are held to the regulations of the NCLB , not he private schools. the private school are exempt from the rules and regulations but wit that comes the fact that now registration is down in the public school again to where it was in 1999.  not many years ago the high school itself had a mishap its roof cave in now the students are in a diffrent building but they do nee the rescourses to make a safe learning enviroment for the students that cant afford to get away from the NCLB and the public schools. but it will take everything they have to get the funds because of how small they are and the disadvantage they have. what are they to do

Leaving the act itself behind

in an article by Richard Quin of the Virginia pilot  he talks about the possibility of the state of Virginia not following the NCLB.  this descision could make Virginia the first state to do so.  although the suggested amount of money y that virginia would lose enacting this reaches more than 350 billion dollars a year the government in virgina has a couple big problems with the NCLB as do allt he others states in the nation.  some of the issues that Virginia has wit the NCLB are tied to the testing of sub groups of students such as the students who are learning english and those that have other difficulties learning not everybody learns at the same pace but, with the amount of money that will be lossed comes the problem  that the state has. but nonetheless in julty of 2009 Virginia plans to draw up papers to remove themselves from th NCLB. how manuy states will follow i do not know but will this create an uproar  yes you can be certain it will because for many students teachers and parents and even administrators this law has become trouble.

Latinos and the NCLB

in my reading to day i discovered that there are a total of 50 million students in our nations public schools and 8.5 million of those students are Latinos.you may ask why this is a serious group of numbers. unfortunately the Latinos are some of the least educated groups in America.  with the NCLB in act this has been increasingly more evident due to the fact that most o these students are trying to learn English as they go through school most of theses students at he age of 17 can read at a level in English equivalnt  to that of a thirteen year old.  the education system should be thee to help them learn but instead with these state wide test it hinders their ability  to learn.  they are expected to hit the same bench marks that other students are also required to hit. is this really fair no i dont thinks so here again the NCLB was a great idea but there are still many kinks in the law to be successful. unfortunately those who came to this country for a better life pay the price  yet again

Problem

today i was reading a fact sheet about the NCLb and came across a problem that this law has had even in its very early days in  1965 the problem being that since the law was enacted in 1965 the federal government has spent 130 billion dollars to improve public schools unfortunately thoough t his investment in education has not reduced the acheivement gap bewtween well off and lower income students or between minority students and non minority students.  how could this be arent we trying to help students succeed i dont think we need to throw more money at the problem because where that money is going is towards the well off schools.  wouldnt it make sense to have more money go to the poorer areas to creat more programs to help the students learn so they might have a chance to suceed or are we going to punish them for where they live and the amount of education that their parents have. or here is another thing to  think about what about the students that are well off but are stuck in the poorer areas based on where the school pulls from  yes they do have the choice to go to other schools but only if their parents can drive them. what tif they cant so we are punishing them too. just food for thought.

the cost of children left

Today  I came across an article online that talked about the the cost of even just one child left behind  in the articcle the person speaking was Charles Rangel a representative of NY. he was talking about the fact that as the reauthorization of the NCLB comes up we should think about the cost of the law itself. he agrees with the the educators of the nation because the law has a good idea behind it but it has a short comming when dealing with the funding for the the law. it fails to fprovide the full funding needed for implementation.   even then the biggest issue that we have in our educational programs is not adressed that of the increasing number of high school drop outs.thirty percent of all students drop out befor graduating.  this causes a huge problem for the businesss workers in the nation because  they want people working for them that are trained in their feilds and have good leardership skillsso how are we going to fix this impleme ting this law is of no helop in this area but yet the drop outs are easily costing the nation 60 billion dollars in tax revinue that they could be recieving. so when reforming this law we could possibly think of ways to get students to stay in school.  this is hard due to the increasing want to be independant but using that we could encourage the students to get done with school so as not to have to live on the support of their families.
